GENERAL HINTS, TIPS, TRICKS AND HELP: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I get more Rubies?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You can purchase additional Rubies at the Bank by selecting the "Bank" button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. You can also get Rubies by actions within the game: Completing the game tasks. Level up. Playing the game for 5 days in a row. Placing in the Top Ranking positions. Earn rewards for completing Foul Deeds.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Why don't I get a bonus every day?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: This game rewards careful planning and maintenance of your Haven and executing successful battles on a regular basis. You can also earn 50 Rubies each week by playing the game for 5 days in a row.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Why do I need Resources?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You need Resources to research Discoveries, construct Buildings, and train and maintain new Units. Upgrade your Rum Cellar, Warehouse, Rum Distilleries, Gold Mines, and Lumber Yards to increase the rate at which you collect Resources. Place your mouse over "Resource" panel in the top left-hand corner of the screen to see how many Resources you're acquiring and expending per hour.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: I run out of Rum all the time. Why is this happening?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: If you constantly find yourself asking "Where's the rum gone?!", you're either carousing too much for a healthy pirate, or may simply need to up your production. All Buildings and Crew slowly consume Rum. You get a warning in your Naval Buildings if you don't have enough Rum to support new Units. Place your mouse over the "Resources" panel in the top left-hand corner of the screen to find out how many Resources you're acquiring or expending. If you do not have enough Rum to maintain your Units, they will gradually desert you. Upgrade your Rum Distilleries to keep the grog flowing and your crew loyal.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: What are my Counselors for?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Counselors report to you on events occurring around your Haven. This helps you to understand what's happening in the game, and to interact with other players more effectively.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I get Sketches?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Your Tinker will give you a new Sketch each day that you play. Play the game every day to collect more Sketches and begin Researching some of the more advanced Discoveries. You can also send and receive Sketches between your friends (max 2 per day). The more often they play the game, the more Sketches you can exchange. You can also exchange Sketches at the Market. This is important: your Researchers will NOT always discover the Sketch you need for the Discovery you want. You may have to Trade for Sketches you're missing with other players in order to progress through the game faster. Sketches can only be Traded for other Sketches - not for Resources or Rum. Extra Sketches can be sold back to the game for a set, non-variable price.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Why did my Sketches disappear?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: When you sell or exchange Sketches, they're gone. You do not retain a copy. Seawater does not agree with printing presses, and McCallan doesn't believe in making backup doodles. They will also disappear after you research the Discovery for which they were required.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Can I change my Haven’s name?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Go to the Captain's Quarters and open the "Statistics" tab. The editable Haven name field will be in the top right corner.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I level up?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Research Discoveries; construct or upgrade Buildings; and destroy the Crew of your Sworn Enemies to earn Experience Points. Every time you collect the required number of Experience Points you will level up and receive a certain number of Rubies as a reward. To track your progress, check the Experience progress bar on the top center panel.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Are there any bonuses in the game?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Free Gold Chests, Rum Barrels, and Piles of Lumber will appear around you and your friends' Havens once a day. You also get a new Sketch from your Tinker each day. There is a 50 Ruby reward every time you play the game 5 days in a row, and you will be rewarded with Rubies when you complete each of the tutorial tasks or earn Medals for Foul Deeds.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Why does the game switch from full-screen mode to the usual interface?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Whenever you enter text, the game will automatically switch out of full-screen mode. There is an unfortunate Aztec curse upon the the network platform what cannot be lifted. Our shamans are working hard with Quetzalcoatl's representatives to find an appropriate sacrifice.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Why do I get identical Sketches?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Your Tinker randomly doodles one new Sketch each day. If you receive 2 or more identical Sketches, you trade the extras for other Sketches you need at the Market.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I maximize space in my Haven?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You can use the "Edit" button to move around objects and buildings so that they use your existing space more efficiently, or expand your Haven by using Rubies or inviting more friends.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Your Crew will always consume only YOUR Rum, no matter where they are. All other Crew are maintained at their owner's expense.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Blockade points are given immediately, but you may have to wait a few minutes until they are displayed in your Diary.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I liberate my Haven from Blockade?

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I upgrade my Units?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You can upgrade your Crew by either going to the Workshop progress tree in the Discoveries window and upgrading the Discovery that unlocked the unit, or by clicking "More" above the unit's icon in the description window and selecting the desired level.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I accelerate Unit production?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You speed up Unit production by clicking the "Boost" button - but only for one production line at a time, and only for the one currently in progress.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: I have reached my limit of 10 Raid attempts. When do I get more?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You will be permitted one new Raid attempt every 2.5 hours.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Why are there different Resource Ore ratios for different players?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Some Havens have more Gold Fields while others have more Stacks of Lumber. The number of Gold and Lumber sources available in each Haven is varied in order to encourage Trading with other players at the Market. Exchange excess resources for ones you need - or sell them for additional Rum.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How can I know if I'm about to be Scouted?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Flying Dutchmen cannot be detected while they are en route, so there is no warning. Your Master at Arms will tell you whether you were successfully scouted only after the fact.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I expand my Haven if I have installed the Walls?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Expanding your Haven does not affect the number of Defensive Fortifications you have installed. But after you expanded your Haven, each side of the Beachhead will be longer so you may notice unfilled spaces. You will be able to purchase more Fortifications in order to fill the gaps and you can move and edit your emplacements to look more contiguous. These gaps do not negatively effect your Defensive Bonus.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I know when my Crew have been sent to another Haven?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Go to the Pirate Stronghold and open the "Underway" tab to check current information about your Crew's location and progress.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I Scout another Haven?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Research Flight, construct the Dutchman's Hangar, and produce Flying Dutchmen to begin scouting other Havens. You can send your Flying Dutchmen on missions by going to your Pirate Stronghold and selecting a Haven you've marked in your "Captain's Log", or by finding a Haven on your Map and selecting "Scout" from the Haven's drop-down menu.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I defend my Haven from Enemy Scouting?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: The more Flying Dutchmen you have in your Haven, the higher your chances are of repelling an Enemy Scouting attempt. You can also install Crow's nests along your beachhead to increase your Haven's Stealth Bonus and the defensive capabilities of your Haven's Flying Dutchmen.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: What is a Haven Defense bonus?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: fense Bonuses increase the defensive rating of your Haven's defenders. Build Fortifications (Walls, Towers, Gates, etc.) and Improvements (Brick roads, Planks, etc.) to increase your Haven's overall Defense Bonus.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How is the outcome of a battle calculated?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Player 1 attacks. Player 2 defends. A is the total value of all of Player 1's attacking units' offense ratings. B is the total value of all of player 2's defensive ratings. Players' losses are calculated according to these aggregate values. If: А = 15,000 Offense and B = 20,000 Defense, then Player 1 loses approximately 55% of units. Player 2 loses 45% of crew. There's a chance the ratio will be changed so that the attacker loses slightly more units as the game continues to be refined.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I start the game all over?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You can't. There are no dead ends in the game, but there is also no restarting on the same account. Don't worry: even if you make some mistakes in the beginning, you can always develop your Sector up to a higher level and fulfill all of the General's Tasks. Be sure to follow the instructions in the order that they're given or you'll slow down your Sector's development by using up your resources too fast. If this happens, just wait awhile until you collect enough to continue.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: I can't attack a player. Why?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Users under level 9 have Novice protection. They can attack any player but no one can attack their Haven. Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: How do I modify or destroy existing buildings?

You can move all of your structures, but only Fortifications and Improvements can be permanently deleted once they have been constructed. Remember that you can expand your Haven if you find yourself running out of space. You can also upgrade Fortifications to higher levels.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: When can I attack other Havens?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: Users under level 9 have Novice protection. They can attack any player but no one can attack their Haven. Click the attacker's Haven coordinates to get to their Haven, this will take you to the Map right next to your enemy's location and close the Pirate Stronghold window. After you check the Attack Timer, send Letters or use any other preferred method to call for Reinforcements from your friends.

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Can buildings be destroyed?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: No, they can't. You lose only Crew and Resources if you fail to defend your Haven. The stronger the enemy force is, the more units and Resources you will lose during a defeat - but your buildings will be untouched. You can re-position all buildings and improvements on your Haven, but the only things you may permanently destroy are Fortifications (to make room for higher level replacements).

Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Question: Can I skip the tutorial?
Pirates: Tides of Fortune - Answer: You can complete the Captain's tasks at any time you choose, but it is HIGHLY recommended that you follow the instructions in the order that they're given or you risk slowing down your Haven's development by using up your resources too fast.
